CEO of Zagros Petrochemical

The exclusive export market of China is no longer favorable for Zagros Petrochemical

monopolizing 90% of the methanol export market in China is not desirable

Rahbord Energy: Dr. Matin Didari, CEO of Zagros Petrochemical, has hinted at the formation of a consortium to implement value chain projects of methanol. He said that in the first meeting of the methanol working group, it will be emphasized that there must be a consortium because there’s no choice but to move towards the construction of a park downstream of the methanol industry.

Considering the situation of methanol manufacturers, he called for the participation of all so that the share of investment decreases and the number and variety of downstream park products increase. He said used plants can be reused, and about 24 downstream products of methanol can be built and put into operation in the production units.

He also said convergence of efforts between methanol producers is important so that each complex takes a share according to its financial strength and status in the methanol industry. He said its result is moving towards the downstream side of the methanol industry with plans that have low capacity and low investment. He emphasized that the aim would be to increase the diversification of methanol product chains.

Regarding the change in the company’s export strategy and the conquest of new markets such as India, Turkey, and Iraq, Didari said one of the company’s strategies is to reach new export markets. According to Didari, monopolizing 90% of the methanol export market in China is not desirable. The methanol industry now needs to enter new export markets, but the development of the market is being pursued. The methanol industry now needs to enter these new markets and target some new ones. According to Didari, it’s now hoped to reach a conclusion with the ongoing negotiations in the next two months.

Regarding the construction project of the ASU unit by Iran’s knowledge-based Hatco, he said the ASU project is currently being implemented. The project is now entering the engineering phase. 86% of the engineering phase has been completed, and orders have been placed. He said 18 items, the delivery of  long term items, have been ordered, and the final order of three main items—the cold box, turboexpander, and compressors—has been done.
